Nevada Criminal Records

  • Nevada has 2,890,845 total people (FBI, 2015).
  • Nevada is the 16th largest state by population.

Court System

  • The Municipal Courts hear cases involving traffic violations, violations of city ordinance and they hear civil matters.
  • The Justice Courts have limited jurisdiction over crimes stated in the Statutes, which includes small claims, non-traffic misdemeanors, traffic cases and temporary protection. They also have the power to review evidence in felony or gross misdemeanor cases and can decide if a specific case should be tried in the District Court.
  • The District Courts are the state's general jurisdiction courts and are also the trial courts of Nevada.
  • The Court of Appeals will hear about one-third of the cases submitted to the Supreme Court, so the Supreme Court does not have to hear all cases.
  • The Supreme Court is the highest court in Nevada and its main function is to review appeals from the decisions of the district courts. This court also has the power to affirm, modify, or set aside the decision on appeal for any case.
