Court System

  • The Town and Village Courts (aka Justice Courts) have jurisdiction over vehicle and traffic matters, evictions, small claims, and minor civil matters and criminal offenses.

  • The Family Court deals with cases involving children and families like adoption, guardianship, domestic violence, and foster care.
  • The District Courts have criminal jurisdiction over misdemeanors and lesser offenses as well as having civil jurisdiction over claims up to $15,000.
